Big Kozo, Bigger Dreams

What do you do when you need a giant sheet of handmade paper for an order?

We recently had to clean up our old vacuum table to make a giant 44” x 67” sheet of handmade kozo paper. Would you believe this was the first time our team made a sheet this size? And we managed to do it on the first try!

It started with pouring fifteen gallons of beaten kozo onto the sealed table, and spreading the magical fibers evenly across the surface. Doing this makes your workspace look like a beautiful frozen kozo lake.

After a few trial and error moments, like having to manually plug the hole in the center, and realizing we need to drain all the water by hand (while sitting underneath the table), we were left with a beautiful arrangement of fibers.

Unfortunately, we needed to trim this majestic sheet down to create three equal pieces for our project, but we are working on some new projects where we would keep the giant piece all together!

The end result is still just as stunning. We love how textured this piece came out, and these papers created the perfect sleek and earthy backdrop for our project.

Know anyone looking for a big custom art piece for their wall? We’d love to make another one of these babies!
